Kalajun Scenic Area is located in Tekes County, Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. It is a comprehensive tourist attraction integrating natural scenery, historical culture, and ecological diversity.

Origin of the Name

"Kalajun" is a Kazak word meaning "the vast grassland on the mountain ridge," vividly depicting the natural landscape of undulating mountains and vast grasslands within the scenic area.

Natural Scenery

  • Kalajun Grassland: Located at an altitude of 2,000 to 3,600 meters, it is a typical alpine meadow. Rich precipitation, cool climate, and fertile soil provide ideal conditions for the growth of forage grass. Hundreds of high-quality forage grasses grow here, forming a typical "flower meadow" grassland. When summer comes, Kalajun Grassland ushers in its golden season, with lush green grass and flowers blooming everywhere.

  • Koksu Grand Canyon: A highlight of the Kalajun scenic area, it winds its way across the grassland. The peaks on both sides of the canyon are steep and precipitous, while the Koksu River within the canyon flows slowly through the valley like a green ribbon. In addition, there are attractions such as Kalajun Lake and Crocodile Bay, where the lake scenery and mountain views complement each other, creating a breathtakingly beautiful view.

  • Middle Tianshan Snowy Peaks: They stand tall above the grassland, overlooking this land. When sunshine shines on the snowy peaks, the white snow seems to be plated with a layer of golden glow, shining brightly.

  • Primitive Forest: In some areas of Kalajun, there are dense primitive forests, such as snow岭 cloud firs, adding endless vitality and vigor to the scenic area.

Cultural Landscape

Qiongkushitai National Historic and Cultural Village: A microcosm of the historical culture of Kalajun, it still retains the traditional production and lifestyle of the Kazak people, making it seem like a living history museum.

Stone Forest Landscape: Located at the source of the Koksu River at an altitude of around 3,500 meters. The stone forest stretches about 9 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide, covering an area of 10 square kilometers. The mountains here have been sculpted by nature into a variety of fantastic and surreal landscapes, making it an excellent destination for photography and exploration.
