Trip Itinerary : 

Day 1

Arrival in Urumqi

Arrival in Urumqi:

  1. Arrive at Urumqi Diwopu International Airport where you will be greeted by your guide.

  2. Transfer to your hotel and check-in. After settling in, you can enjoy a bit of rest or freshen up before heading out to explore.

Free Time for Exploration:

  1. For the rest of the day, you will have free time to explore Urumqi at your leisure.

    • Explore local markets: Visit the Erdaoqiao Grand Bazaar, a bustling market where you can find Uygur handicrafts, local spices, textiles, and souvenirs.

    • Take a stroll around People's Park: Enjoy the peaceful surroundings of this city park, ideal for a relaxing walk and to see a bit of local life.

    • Visit a local café or restaurant: Enjoy Xinjiang specialties such as pilaf, lamb kebabs, or hand-pulled noodles.

 

 

Evening: Enjoy Urumqi's Nightlife

  1. If you're up for it, head to International Grand Bazaar to see the night lights or enjoy a traditional Uygur performance at a local restaurant.

  2. You may also want to explore the night markets to sample some local street food such as samsa (savory pastries), dried fruits, and roast lamb skewers.

Day 2

Urumqi to Altay City

Depart from Urumqi - Head to Tian Shan Tianchi (Heavenly Lake)

  1. After breakfast, depart from Urumqi for a scenic drive towards Tian Shan Tianchi (Heavenly Lake).

  2. The Heavenly Lake is located about 110 kilometers from Urumqi, nestled in the Tian Shan Mountains, and is known for its breathtaking beauty.

    • Explore the crystal-clear waters, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and dense forests.

    • You can enjoy a boat ride on the lake or take a walk along the shores, offering fantastic photo opportunities of the stunning natural scenery.

Cross the S21 Desert Highway

  1. After lunch, continue your journey by driving through the S21 Desert Highway, which offers unique landscapes of vast deserts and sand dunes. This highway connects Urumqi with the Altay region, and the drive itself is an unforgettable experience.

    • Enjoy the desert scenery: As you travel, you’ll witness the contrast between the arid desert and distant mountains. You may also encounter cultural landmarks related to local nomadic life.
