Historical Culture
Chadgan Lake has a long history and holds mysterious tales. The grasslands by the lake are home to relics of the Liao and Jin dynasties, while its watersides are the birthplace of the Mongolian and Manchu people. Emperors of the Liao Dynasty once hunted and fished here, calling it the "Spring Fishing Camp". Since the mid-1980s, through the Songhua River Diversion Project, the water level of Chadgan Lake has been stabilized, playing an important role in flood storage and drainage. In 2007, Chadgan Lake Nature Reserve was approved as a national nature reserve by the State Council.
